Well, we’re back from our trip. We had a great time. We left early Friday morning so we could spend the day doing fun things. We got to Wichita about 10:30 and went directly to Barnes and Noble. I sipped on some iced tea while I looked at the craft books – mostly knitting, but a lot of other fun ones too. When we were hungry for lunch we went next door to Souper Salad and made giganticly awesome salads. After lunch we went back to Barnes and Noble to kill some time – Mark looked at stuff while I sat in a comfy chair and worked on my knitting.

We checked into our hotel and took a nap – Mark wasn’t feeling up to par (sinus infection?). Then we got ready and located the theatre where Mark’s play was to be performed. Very cool space. Then we parked and looked for a place to get an appetizer before the show. We found this place:

We tried the hummus shawarma (wonderfully yummy and creamy hummus with sliced beef and sauteed onions on top of it surrounded with cucumber slices, radish slices, and olives) and the bruschetta trio (three big slices of crisp bruschetta. The first one had salmon, hard-boiled eggs, red onion and capers. The second one had chicken, pickle relish, and more caper. The third one had sliced beef, hummus, and this spicey olive paste. I prefed the chicken one better)Yummy! Then we had a lovely cup of coffee before heading out.

Then we went to the theatre to see Mark’s play. It was a lot of fun. We really enjoyed the show and the people were super nice. They treated us well and we got to talk to some former students too. That was a good thing too. Then we went to Bennigan’s so Mark could grab a snack since he didn’t eat before (long story).

We then went back to the hotel and eventually fell asleep till 9 this morning. On our way out of town we stopped off in Augusta, Kansas, and went to a tea room! I’ll blog about it on my tea blog since this is already super long.

All in all, we had a good time. As you can see:

I was able to sit and knit tonight while we watched a DVD. Mark picked up “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind” – not bad. I enjoyed it. My head wasn’t in it too much though. I have a little headache and am mighty sleepy.

I’m done packing and ready for the morning. Guess I’ll get up early and log on real quick to read some blogs. We’re gonna take the laptop with us because the hotel room is wired so we can link to the net. I’m all about that.

I got no sleep last night. My stupid period! URG!!! I was up all night long. So I slept in a little bit and took a little nap this afternoon. I feel a little better. I also had to pack because we leave early tomorrow morning. I am so excited for Mark. This the first production of one of his plays that he’s nothing to do with OR in which he’s not known the people involved. Some of his past students have done productions, but this time, we know no one. We’ll see if Friday night (opening night) I can’t wait. I feel like the wife of a celebrity!

I tried painting my nails today, and then realized that I like them better with just plain gloss on them. They look better for some reason that way.

I’m not sure what we’re doing tonight. Mark mentioned getting a DVD for us, that would be nice. I’m in the mood to just sit and knit and relax. We’ll see what happens.

It’s gonna be an early morning, but that’s ok.

Friday Forum follows:

1] You’re making a CD mix titled, “The Soundtrack of My Life.” Which songs would you include, and why?

Great question. I would probably have to start with the song, “Here she is, Miss America” because my parents always sang that to me when I’d walk in a room (I think it’s why I think I’m a princess even today). Then my grade school years would be Abba’s “Dancing Queen” – it reminds me of my parents and their friends – I would spy on them and watch them having so much fun while I was wishing I could be a grown up. Middle school would be Rod Stewart’s “If Ya’ Think I’m Sexy” because I really and truly believed I was about the best looking thing on the planet – even though I hung around with the geeky kids. I would dance to that in my room and imagine me as the most beautiful and popular person in school. Also at that time I would have to add Joan Jett’s “I Love Rock N Roll” because I was just entering my teen angst time and assumed that no one understood me – just rock and rollers. Once I entered high school I would have to add “Goody Two Shoes” by Adam Ant – because I thought I was tough and everyone was a goody-two shoes. Madonna’s “Like A Virgin” and it doesn’t have anything to do with virginity – but mostly because I yearned to be like her and have the freedom to dress like that and be ultra cool and sing about sex without getting into trouble or anything. Then I’d add Rush’s “Limelight” because I thought, once again, that I was better than everybody else and lived on yet a higher plane that only me and Getty Lee understood. Then, I’d add “Jesus Christ Superstar” because that song was when I really started to question things in life and not just follow blindly. For my college years I’d add Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer” because I felt that I too would someday find true love and it would just be the two of us and nothing else would matter. Then I’d have “Brandy” by Looking Glass. It seemed like I was dating people that thought I was great, but not “long-term” relationship material. For my grad school years I would have “Make My Garden Grow” from the musical Candide. Mark sang that song for auditions and the words seemed so wonderful – I could just sit there and hope I would find a man that would feel that way about me. Then for the past few years I would probably have to add “Singing My Song” by Ray Charles and the theme song from “Cheers”. The first one holds special meaning for Mark and me, and the second one makes me think of family.

2] What is your favorite song right now?

I really am lovin’ the stuff by D-12

3] You’re feeling down, sad, lonely, frustrated, angry … which
song[s] do you play to help yourself feel better?

I really don’t play music when I’m down or anything. I prefer talking.

4] Do you watch the TV show “American Idol”? Why/why not?
Who do you think will win the competition?

Actually, I’ve never seen an episode of “American Idol” – we just don’t watch a lot of TV in our house.

5] Do most of your friends generally share your taste in music?

Not really. Mark kind of does – I like some harder stuff than he prefers. But my other friends – probably not. They’re too into what is popular now and don’t really listen to any “good” stuff.

We saw Shrek 2 tonight. We liked the first one better, even though the reviews like the second one better. That’s ok – we still had fun. There were tons of kids there though – what can you expect from the opening night early show?

I need to do something tonight. Something productive. I was a little lazy today, partially because I wasn’t feeling too hot, but I feel pretty good now, and am ready to make up for lost time.

just got up from a little rest and feel much better. I’m ready for lunch though. Mark is outside working in the yard and as soon as he’s done and ready, we’ll go grab a bit someplace.

Tonight we see Shrek 2 – I can’t wait. We really enjoyed the first one and the reviews say this one is even better. We’ll see….

just had my flying lesson and we didn’t take pictures, Mark video taped the whole thing. Well, since he was on the ground, he only taped the take off and landing. It was awesome. We flew over the college and our house. I loved the view. It was pretty bumpy out. Very rough and we would drop and rock the whole time. It just felt different than turbulence on a big plane. The guy was super nice and I made him call me Maverick. And he did! When we got off the plane, Mark was filming and I made my instructor say, “You can be my wing man anytime Maverick” – what a good sport. This poor pilot probably thinks I’m nuts.

Now I’m going back to bed – cramps! I think I’ll grab the kitty and pull the blinds and rest for a couple of hours. I need it.

Today was productive. I got lots of work done for my upcoming online class. I made Mark log on as a student and see if there were any glitches. I’m glad I did that because I did find some things I need to fix.

We had to have the AC guy come out to fix the unit that’s less than a year old! I guess we had some kind of Freon leak and he fixed it and now we’re set. Though it’s not too hot right now. We’ve been lucky. Luckily the warranty is still on.

Tomorrow is a good day! It’s my flying lesson! I am pumped. All we need is the weather to hold out for me. I am very excited. Mark is staying on the ground and taking pictures and running the camcorder. Though I’m sure we’ll be so far away that he can’t see me at times, but at least he’ll get me landing and taking off. I’m ready! Just call me Maverick! I’m gonna be a Top Gun!

I had to call my nail tech today and cancel. I have had a standing appointment for about 4 years now. About 6 months ago I took off my acrylics and have been growing my own nails since then. Well, I’ve still been going for regular manicures and upkeep. But, I think I can do my own at home. I’ve been having weekly manicures for about six months and I think I know what to do. So I finally go the nerve and called and told her that I thought I could do it on my own. I was nervous, but I did it. I felt bad, because she’s at a salon I don’t ever go to. I get my hair done at a different place. So I probably won’t be seeing her very much. That’s sad because after this many years seeing her on a weekly basis we really started to have such a fun relationship. I’m not sure when/if our paths will cross again, but I felt it was time for me to move on. Why spend the money if I think I can do it at home?

I made ribs tonight. The recipe called them Country Pork Ribs, but they really turned out to have a sweet and sour taste to them. Which is fine, just surprising. They were ok, I don’t think I’d make them again though. I would rather just make plain ole sweet and sour pork – which I think I will do in a few weeks anyway.

Tonight I’m gonna work on some homework reading. I’ll just grab my stuff and head to the bed and start work. I’m actually finishing up a cup of coffee, so this will be a late night. Heck, I won’t be able to sleep anyway thinking about my flying lesson!

I’ll update and post pictures of my flight tomorrow!

We got to sleep in this morning. That was nice. I sent Mark out with a list of things to do while I stayed home and cleaned. Then we had to run a few errands. And it seemed like it was dinner time before we knew it.

I’m putting stuff on eBay tonight. Just seeing if anything sells – who knows. We’ve never sold before, but I think we’ll give it a shot and see how it all goes.

I have another list of stuff for Mark to do tomorrow. He doesn’t know it yet…hee-hee. It’s nice having him around so he can get the little things done while I’m cleaning or something. I do have to run into work and do a little bit of work. I am not totally finished with my online class and that darn thing starts in two weeks. Blah! I’ll get it all taken care of though.

I think it’s going to be a late night, I can just feel it I’m not tired and we’re both busy doing projects and stuff, so it looks like our summer is truly here.
