What a rainy day! I got up and thought it was going to never stop raining, but when it did for a little bit I headed out for some groceries and stuff. The sun came out and it was sticky, sticky, sticky. Then I made some lunch and read some magazines and by the time I looked up again it was totally dark outside and starting to rain. It hasn’t let up since. So, I decided that since it’s perfect napping weather, I should do just that. Now I need to get some stuff done around the house and think about dinner for tonight. I’m cooking tonight. Lately we’ve gotten into the HBO show “Curb Your Enthusiasm” – we rented season one and have only 4 more to watch of it – we’ll do that tonight because it’s so icky outside. Season two comes out on DVD in mid-June and we’ll watch that. Season four is on now, and we can catch re-runs and stuff on HBO late at night. It’s an odd humor that most people won’t like, but we love it. We laugh so hard sometimes! I read in a new cat book I got that you can feed cats baby food – as long as there is no onion powder, onion flavoring, or any onion products (onions kill kitties) – so I shopped in the baby food aisle today. Man, almost everything has onion – which surprised me! So, I looked in the organic baby food and picked two – one is a sweet potato, and one is a butternut squash and corn mix. The baby will get a taste of at least one tonight. We’ll see if she likes it. If she does, she can have it as a special treat now and then. Speaking of baby food – did you like that segue? Standing there looking at the shelves reminded me of my sophomore year in high school. My best friend Lisa and I went through this phase of eating baby food – it only lasted a few months though. We somehow thought it was kind of cool to do this. At home for dinners we had to eat normal, of course. But our parents didn’t know that everything else was nothing but baby food. My parents were ultra-strict, so she kept the stash at her house. Every night we’d plan our menu and she’d bring it in her backpack. Some of them were horrendous, of course, but I remember eating all the fruit ones – I don’t think I ate peaches though. And there was this one called “Blueberry Buckle” – I ate that till I turned blue practically. We didn’t eat many of the veggies, the ones we liked were sweet potato, carrots, there was a squash one, and some others. We did NOT eat any of the meat ones – they were too scary. So when lunch would roll around, we’d pocket our lunch money to save for more baby food, and plop down with our cool friends at the popular table – ok, we weren’t cool, we were the geeks, but we thought we were cool in our way. And we’d eat our lunch of squash and blueberry buckle. We would even drag it with us when we went cruising. I remember sitting in her car with babyfood in one hand and a cigarette in the other – talk about cool! The lesson that I learned about that whole phase was that lots of kids judged us by our behavior. Ok, I know it was weird, but still. They openly made faces and talked about us behind our backs, but in the same breath, they’d ask for a taste. People are so quick to turn up their noses when something is different, but deep down they’re curious and I think even a little bit envious. It’s just safer to “go with the flow” and they’re too scared to be different. I know that was in high school, but the same darn thing happens to me today. I’m still not sitting at the popular table, but I enjoy the geeks that I hang with today! Anyone for some “Blueberry Buckle”???

We had a very nice Monday (Memorial Day). We were lazy and nappers until 2:00. Then we decided to head out to have linner (Lunch and Dinner) hee-hee. Then we went to the bookstore and I loaded up on magazines. I think I’m a bit of a magazine junkie. Seriously, I have like 12 subscriptions. So, I picked up four magazines that I don’t have subscriptions for (yet) 🙂 So we came home and Mark went over to a friend’s house and visited for a few hours. I sat at home and finished laundry and read my mags. Went to bed to work on homework and fell asleep – very late. But now I’m up and I want to get my errands out of the way. I need to shower and head on out of here.

We just got done watching “Big Fish” and thoroughly enjoyed it. I read the book not too long ago and loved it. The book made me cry, and not many books do that. So, I figured the movie would make me cry too, and it did. I just love what it has to say. And we ooh’ed and ahh’ed at the lovely cinematography. Beautiful pictures. The trees, oh the trees – you could just sit and pay attention to the trees and follow the story. Beautiful movie.

It’s kind of been an odd day around here. We have been ultra lazy (once again). I don’t mind being lazy once in awhile, but two days in a row starts to stress me out. So, I got all worried and stressed and broke out in hives (I’m so lucky) – finally got that under control and decided I just needed to force myself to do something. So I plopped down in front of the laptop and wrote for an hour. It’s not much, but it’s a start. I should do more, but I don’t know if I’m in the mood. I think I may just read. That’s something productive. Better than staring at the wall. When I start staring at the wall, we all know something’s wrong.

Here are some adorable pictures of my little girl. She is so spoiled she eats her Fan*cy Feast kitty food from a crystal glass like they do in the commercials:

Then Mark made dinner for us – Beef and Broccoli – it’s one of his specialties:

Then he cleaned up in the kitchen while I got to lounge:

During the summer our sleep habits change drastically. There is no “bedtime” because there’s no time to wake up. It’s not unusual for us to be up at odd hours of the night. Last night I went to bed around 1:00, I had been working on homework, and Mark was the computer working on his play. He came to bed around 2:30. He couldn’t sleep, so at 3:00 he got up to watch TV. I got up with him and played in the Internet. I went back to bed around 3:30. He stayed up till 5:00. We woke at 7:30 so we could go grab breakfast and head to the farmer’s market. We got back home at 9:00 and Mark went right to sleep again. I went back to bed at 9:30. He woke up at 11:00, only to fall back asleep on the couch a half hour later. I got up at noon to find him and we both sat around till 1:00 doing nothing. And when I say nothing, I mean, nothing. No tv, no talking, just sitting and staring at the wall – our brains were foggy. We are now among the living and have gone grocery shopping and are slowly getting ready for dinner later on tonight.

I know it’s truly summer when we’re looking for good movies on at 3am.

Here is my Friday Forum.

1] What do you think [or hope] the summer of 2004 will be like?

I hope it’ll be relaxing and productive. Productive meaning I get a lot of things read and written, and crafted. Fun and long – the way summers should be.

2] Are you planning any summer vacations, weekend getaways,
parties, picnics, outings, etc.?

We’ll go away for our anniversary in August. We’ll probably head to KC once, and we’ll probably have a couple of weekend (or one night) travels someplace. We’ll do little daytrips and some exploring. We also like to explore new restaurants and shops, so we’ll probably go hunting for that stuff sometime too.

3] What has been the best summer of your life thus far?

Wow – let’s see I bet I can actually thing of more icky summers right off the top of my head. Good summers – probably most every summer. I don’t as if I have a “best”.

4] What is your area’s summertime weather usually like?

HOT and humid. When you factor in the humidity, the weather is probably in the upper 90s or low 100s. Insane! Dry. Everything is dry, the ground is cracking, you can’t walk out to get the paper at the end of the driveway without burning your feet. Everything gets dried out and dies. The grass turns all brown. By the time August rolls around, we’re all pretty miserable.

5] What are your favorite summertime foods/drinks?

I like it when Mark grills. He does a good job, and it’s fun to eat too. I like drinking iced tea that I make. Fresh fruits and veggies of the season are yummy too. I really crave big ole salads during the summer. Nothing heavy, just a big salad (I’m thinking of Elaine on Seinfeld now) Ice cream is also good – popsicles, hot dogs, all sorts of summer salads – pasta, fruit, veggie. Mmmmmm!

We went to our Web Page Design class – lots of fun! Not too difficult, yet. Then we went out to be with a group of co-workers because one of them is leaving and has a new job. So everyone was drinking and doing shots. We each had two beers and called it quits. We weren’t in the mood to get loaded. Plus, they had all been there awhile, so they were already bombed by the time we got there, so you know what that’s like, when you walk in a room and everyone is already drunk and you’re not – not fun.

So, we came home and made a pot of coffee. I need to figure out what I’m doing for the rest of the night though. I’m not sure – I do need to get started on some homework stuff, so I may take that to bed and spread out on the bed and do homework. That way, when I’m sleepy, I can just fall asleep.

Have a good Friday!

Tonight we have our first web design class. I’m looking forward to it. I am not sure if we have to create a web page, or if they’ll let us tinker with what we have – I would want to play with my blogs, of course. But, we’ll see.

I know I’ve been going on and on about finding a way to mail record albums safely and efficiently. Well, today some yarn I ordered arrived at my doorstep in a perfect size box for mailing albums. I am very pleased. Now I need to get more of the same kind. We’ve experimented with mailers and boxes and shipping sleeves, but they all seem so very fragile. Like, if someone would put something heavy on top of it – the record would break. I know I need to put the word “Fragile” on it, but that doesn’t mean anything – we’ve all experienced broken stuff from the mail. Oh well, I think we found a solution. Looks like that’s what we’ll be doing this afternoon.

I really don’t think we have anything planned for this holiday weekend. I hope to see a movie or two – maybe rent a couple. That seems like a good plan. Especially because today is pay day. The college isn’t open on Fridays during the summers, and since we get paid on the last working day of the month – today is pay day! I’ve never understood why lots of education places only pay once a month. That can suck. Because it seems like you’re loaded during the first week of the month, but then by the last week, it seems like pay day was ages ago. I especially hate December. Since it’s the last working day of the month, we get our check like December 10th or something, then we don’t get another one till the last day of January. That’s like 7 weeks – during the holidays! It sucks! I try and prepare for it, but the last week in January is always miserable for everyone at the college. Very odd pay schedule. My sister-in-law is a teacher too, and they get paid that way too? Why? I mean, every single employer in the world has budget issues and would probably love to hold off pay day till the end of each month. But that’s the way the cookie crumbles…

We just got done putting stuff on ebay. We have lots of old records from a donation, and we’re piling them up and selling them in groups. The shipping part sucks. Albums aren’t fun to ship.

I’m not real tired, so I guess I need to figure out something to do till bedtime. Read?
